Welcome
Scandinavian Communicator & Photographer
in love with Africa,
long-distance driving
& new horizons,
photography, expression, politics, activism and new media
Welcome to my website where you find links to my photography, work samples, CV, social media profiles and contacts.
I have worked for 10+ years with people who work for change, and where I have been able to use my creativity for making ideas happen: very mixed, very flexible, very much across continents, cultures and people.
I volunteered in Bosnia in 1997 to work with refugee children from Srebrenica, and engaged further in peace activism in ex-Yugoslavia in 2000, where I established the Next Stop campaign in Belgrade and took part in the establishment of South East European Youth Network. I continued working with campaigning, activism and development for an NGO based in Copenhagen , and from 2005 I gradually shifted towards communication, new media and photography when worked in Uganda on a civic education programme with Sudanese refugees, and later in Tanzania as information officer for an international NGO .
Since June 2010 I have worked for the Project Advice & Training Centre with a focus on new media and activism. Additionally, I am freelancing within communication, new media and photography. Check out what I am up to presentlyand connect here.

How does it work?
To me photography has been part of my work for many years, and hence closely connected to activism, development and long-distance road trips in rural Africa.
I have experience from Uganda, South Sudan, South Africa and Tanzania. From working with refugees, development workers, politicians, musicians, fashion design - in slow rural pace and urban chaos.
I have also established photo archives for NGOs, illustrated websites and publications of all sorts. See examples here .
I take assignments if they fit my style and competences. Price depends on the type of the assignment, or if you just want to buy photos from my archive.
Conctact me if interested, so we can discuss expectations, ideas and price.

Equipment
I am self-taught, prefer natural light, a reflector and to work outside. Add to that a high level of imagination, a strong passion for communicating my impressions visually, to engage with people, to travel far, and with as little equipment as possible. At present I work with a Nikon 5000D and - preferably - with a 55-2000 mm objective.

I use social media to connect, keep track of my experience, learn and exchange ideas. I started using it from a personal perspective, but it has gradually become part of my work. I started blogging in June 2005 when I left Copenhagen for northern Uganda to work. I continued in Tanzania and Denmark up till now where I blog in English at Dunia Duara.
I have learnt that people have a million different opinions on Africa; That the image of Africa in European media often doesn't correspond with the one of the Africans. Most often it doesn't with mine. In 2006 my blog was elected Ugandan Blog of the Year , and in March 2008 I was criticized for not displaying the right picture of Tanzania .
I started blogging because I found the information about development work in Africa too politically correct. Lacking passion, presence and precision. I wanted to use the opportunity of living in Africa to add nuance. Today my blogging is driven by curiosity for people, culture, expressions, politics, media etc.
Obviously, I am not perfect as a person or in my second language, and I communicate entirely from my personal perspective, knowing very well that my tribe is Scandinavian and my accent Northern.
Creating good connections in cyberspace takes decent engagement as in real life: Connect with me on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or my blog, but please present yourself (or let's meet if we're in the same place and you think there's a potential mutual benefit!)
